ΓÇó Be sure that your database file is saved as type 'TEXT' ("Text Only", "Text With Line Breaks", etc.) before you index it. You can index and browse a file that is not plain text, but odd characters representing graphics, font changes, and other formatting information may appear, and highlighting in the Text View window may err. All word processors have an option to save a file as type 'TEXT'.
ΓÇó If you edit or otherwise change your database file, remember to build new index files for it -- the old index files should be discarded, as their word lists and pointers may no longer be valid.
ΓÇó Keep the index files as they are initially built for you, named the same as your main database but with '.k' and '.p' on the end, and store them in the same folder as your database. Otherwise, "Free Text Browser" won't be able to find the indices and you'll have to locate the files for the program manually.
ΓÇó Do NOT try to index or browse a file that is already open (either in another MultiFinder partition, by another user over a net, or by HyperCard itself). Thus, do try to use the Free Text stacks to index or browse themselves! (You can, of course, index or browse inactive copies of these files safely).
